The country was part of the silk route in the past between Tibet and Indian subcontinent. Bhutan is notable for pioneering the concept of gross national happiness. Bhutan name derived from Sanskrit Bhota anta, meaning end of Bhot or Tibet, also popular by the name land of thunder dragon.Practically a Buddhist country now, Buddhism in Bhutan introduced by Songtsan Gompo in 7th century. Bhutan’s highest mountain Gangkhar Puensum is the highest unclimbed mountain of the world. Bhutan’s economy based on agriculture, tourism, forestry and hydropower. Subsistence farming and animal husbandry is very important as more than 50% of population engaged in agriculture for their livelihood. Because of its largely unspoiled natural environment and cultural heritage Bhutan is also popular by the name the last Shangrila. As Bhutan imposing high value tourism, it’s hard for many visitors to enter Bhutan if they have tighter budget. Most of the foreigners entering Bhutan required signing up with tour operator and paying around US$250 per day that they stay in the country, though this fee covers travel, lodging and foods. Smoking in public places is strictly banned in Bhutan and there will be very high penalty if somebody found smoking in public places.
