Heritage walk in Patan

Heritage walk in Patan is one of the best walk to discover all the important monuments, streets, lifestyles and attractions of the town. Patan located on the southeast of Kathmandu, was an independent small kingdom until 1768 AD. The kingdom during that time was ruled by the kings from Malla dynasty. Another name of Patan is Lalitpur literally signify city of beautiful arts. The artists who work with metal are concentrated in Patan till now. Patan produce different types of handicraft especially out of metal but they also work on stone and woods too. The people who work with silver are also concentrated in Patan.

 Heritage walk is different than the regular sightseeing as it takes to the small streets and temples which are constructed back in different centuries. The walk also takes to see some of the oldest remaining Bahals, water spouts and local markets where the local people do their shopping. These types of streets are especially wonderful to see the lifestyles of the local people. During this walk one can see the local food stalls and local restaurants where people gather to get some light snacks, sweets and drink tea. If you like to try some of these, do not hesitate to ask with your guide.

The walk is done with our professional guide who is specially trained and having insight knowledge about the places and lifestyles. The walk also covers the major tourist attraction like the old palace complex with its courtyards, temples and all of the important monuments. The tour actually needs more time than normal tour and it is an excellent photo opportunity of varied objects of photography.

Mainly the Buddhist population is concentrated in Patan with their age old practices in Vajrayana Buddhism. The Vajrayana Buddhism often gets influenced with Tantrism, Hinduism and some of the esoteric practices. The Newar people in Patan are Buddhist but not vegetarian, as many outsiders think all the Buddhist people are vegetarian. Sometimes people even get surprised with the exposure of the fleshes of Buffalo meat in the streets. The matter of hygiene on these butchers stores are another surprising fact to our valuable customers.  Mostly they avoid killing animals in Buddhist neighborhood.

How much does the heritage walk in Patan cost?

We charge one full day tour, so you can use our air conditioned private transfer to and from Patan and our professional tour guide, which cost $90 for 1-2 people. If you do not like the heritage walk and want add in you can leave the walk and within our time frame of 6-8 hours from the beginning of your tour you can go to any other attraction like Boudhanath, Pashupatinath or Swoyambhunath.

Can I do this walk on my own?

Unless you are familiar with the streets and monuments in Patan or you have somebody who is familiar with the streets in Patan this is not an easy walk. We highly recommend our professional tour guide who has insight knowledge about the places and activities there.
