The best trek to observe the great variety of Bhutanese landscape. The trek passes through scattered farmland, hamlet and forested valley. The trek reach up to the high alpine pasture land where one can observe the Yak herds and their grazing land. The best view of Mt. Jomolhari and Mt. Jichu Drake is observed during the trek. The trek also passes through thick pine forest and alpine meadows. The trek is suitable for adventure lovers and persons who like to see rural lifestyles of Bhutan. Significant level of fitness is necessary to accomplish the trip.

Trip Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Paro airport, meet our guide/representative and transfer to your hotel. Take a rest for few hour and afternoon time visit to ParoDzong and national museum of Bhutan. A visit to local market in Paro by evening is also a wonderful experience by the evening time.

Day 02: Paro sightseeing including visit to KyichuLakhang, which was constructed by Tibetan king SrongtsenGompo in 7th century. Afternoon hike to Takshang monastery, the most venerated and visited temple of Bhutan.

Day 03: Trek from Paro to Shana (2870m.). 5-6 hours of walking and covering about 16 km. The trek starts from nearby DrukgyalDzong which short descends and passes through cultivated terraces and ascends to reach the army post. The trek continues to reach Shana, which is the camping place for today.

Day 04: Trek from Shana to SoiThangthangkha (3760m.), 7-8 hours of walking and covering about 18 kms. After leaving the lovely campsite here, the trail passes through pine and oak forest following the Pachu or Paroriver. The lunch place after crossing the river and few hours after lunch to reach the campsite.

Day 05: Trek from SoiThangthangkha to Jangothang (4040 m.), 7-8 hours of walking. The trail follows upstream in the river. The vegetation keeps changing as the elevation goes high. The trail crosses the tree line. Lunch spot might be one of the yak herders camp and continue to reach Jangothang for overnight camping. The campsite is a viewpoint to see the Jhomolharimountain.

Day 06: Trek from Jangothang to Nyele-la pass (4700m.) and continue to Lingshi (4000m.), 8-9 hours of walking. The trail at the beginning follows the river upstream. After crossing the river the trail ascends to the ridge with spectacular view of the Jomolhari and Jitchhu drake. Jitchhu drake is considered as tutelary deity of Paro. The trail ascends continuously to reach the Nyele-la pass then starts descending to reach Lingishi, which is popular campsite.

Day 07: Trek from Lingshi to Yeli-la pass (4800m.) and continue to Shodu (4100m.), 8-9 hours of walking. The trail ascends at the beginning to reach the ridge and descends down to Mo chu valley. After crossing the Mo chu river a steep climb lead to Yeli-la pass. An unforgettable view of Jomolhari, Gangchenta and Tserimgang is visible from the pass. The trail after the pass descends down to Shodu for overnight camping.

Day 08: Trek from Shodu to Barshong (3600m.), 6-7 hours of walking. The trail follows downstream in the Thimpu Chu. As the elevation goes low, the vegetation keeps changing and the trail passes through alpine landscape, pine, juniper and rhododendron forest. After having lunch at the riverside then ascends gently to reach the BarshongDzong. The campsite is located near by the ruins of BarshongDzong.

Day 09: Trek from Barshong to DolamKhencho (3600m.), 5-6 hours of walking. Today is relatively easy day as trail descends gently to reach Thimpu Chu. The trail passes through rhododendron, birch and pine forest. The trail again passes through the rocky face to reach pasture land at DolamKhencho, which is an ideal campsite.

Day 10: Trek from DolamKhencho to Dodena (2600m.) and drive to Thimpu. 3-4 hours of walking and drive to Thimpu. The trail passes through the dense forest and descends down to the river. After reaching Dodena, take a transport to Thimpu.

Day 11: Thimpu sightseeing and drive to Paro. A full day sightseeing of Thimpu valley including National Memorial Chhorten, Tashichhodzong, National library, Bhutanese art and craft school. After the sightseeing, drive to Paro for overnight stay.

Day 12: Departure from Paro. At a proper time transfers to Paro airport for the departure to another destination.
